Radon is a radioactive gas that is found in soil and rock in all parts of the U.S. and throughout Illinois. It is formed by the atomic decay of Uranium, a natural process.
Radon can be found in all types of homes and buildings. Radon is a colorless odorless gas. Radon typically moves from the ground into a home through drains, and cracks or other openings in the foundation due to pressure differentials. Radon can build up to unacceptable levels in your living space where it can lead to higher than normal exposure.
Studies have shown radon to be the leading cause of lung cancer in non smokers.
A radon test will determine if there are higher than acceptable levels of radon in your home.
